Galaxy Wearable (Samsung Gear)

The Samsung Gear application pairs your Samsung Gear with your iOS or Android smartphone, enabling synchronization between your Gear and phone while also providing a comprehensive management platform for your Gear's settings, applications, and functionalities. The app gives you entire control of your Samsung Gear S3, Gear S2, Gear Fit, and Gear IconX.

Interface

The design and graphics on both the iOS and APK download are sleek with the watch face as the main screen. A settings window lets you navigate through the various options such as Watch Faces, Apps, Transfer Content, Widgets, and Gear Connections. The customizable, yet sleek and responsive design is why I give this a rating of 10/10.

Features

The diverse functions offered by the app score it a 9/10. The Samsung Gear tool lets you navigate a variety of Gear features right on your Google Android or Apple device. You can check your watch’s connection to your phone and connect or disconnect it using the app via Bluetooth. The app also finds your Gear within range. You have the option to check for software updates and adjust your clock settings on the app.

You can customize your watch face to different varieties such as Analog, Classic Analog, Classic White, Yellow Pop, and Chronograph Lite among others. Other functions are adjustable right on your app too, such as application settings, notification settings, and other downloads.

The app will require permissions on your device: location to search for nearby devices, storage to transmit and store files through gear, telephone, and contacts for services that need linkage with your Samsung account info.

You can download the Samsung Gear app for your Android device for free and it doesn't contain any in-app purchase options.

The APK can run on any device that operates on Android version 4.3 or above. Sadly, this specific variant isn't supported on iOS devices. However, you can find Gear S, a subsequent edition of the application, on the App Store. This iteration supports Gear Sport but lacks Gear Fit and Gear IconX compatibility. Neither version can connect to the Gear VR or Gear 360.

Performance

The App Store and Google Play app for Samsung Gear are quite intuitive and straightforward to use, rating a 6/10. The app is seamless and connects easily with your device. However, the app frequently crashes even after newer updates. There are too many notifications on the app, and I experienced freezing on my device. The app also loses its Bluetooth connectivity occasionally.

The Verdict

This leading app lets you enjoy the total package of the Samsung Gear on your device. This is an App for all Android devices or the iOS variants so everyone should be able to enjoy it. You can customize your Gear interface and appreciate the multiplicity of options in the Samsung world. If you have a variety of Samsung devices, you’ll enjoy this app. I have a problem with the updates which rarely fix issues and how the app takes too long before connecting your Gear via Bluetooth. The technical team at Samsung respond quickly to queries, which should help you solve any issues.

Pros

  • Awesome design
  • Customizable
  • Easy to use.

Cons

  • Some updates don’t fix problems
  • Installs take forever
  • Takes time to establish connectivity, especially on Bluetooth.
