Astro Bot Developer Initially Considered an Open World Structure

Astro Bot's launch later this year will bring a host of diverse levels, highlighting the expansive nature of the platformer game. Team Asobi, the developer, has repeatedly mentioned the extensive scale of the project. However, the form of the game could have diverged significantly if early development discussions had followed a different path.

Astro Bot's creative director and the head of Team Asobi, Nicholas Doucet, shared that the team considered developing an open-world platformer in the game's initial stages. In an interaction with EDGE magazine (referenced via GamesRadar), Doucet clarified that they ultimately chose to create a level-based structure. This strategy offered them the greatest ability to control the diversity of the game setting.

Astro Bot's emphasis is indeed diverse. The platformer game will feature over 80 levels across various galaxies with more than 70 unique adversaries, over 300 bots to save, and the option to complete challenging levels, among other features.

Astro Bot is scheduled for release on September 6 on PS5.
