Capcom is “Considering” How to Make Mega Man Games “on an Ongoing Basis”
Capcom, the company behind successful gaming franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, has not always had the same fortune as some of its other properties. Despite its longstanding popularity and iconic status within Capcom's portfolio, Mega Man has lately seen decreased relevance. The majority of recent game entries have largely been reissued collections of former games, with the only exception being 2018's Mega Man 11.
The uncertainty thus naturally brings up the question of how long the fan base might have to wait before new regular releases. During Capcom's most recent shareholder meeting, this topic was addressed. Though an exact timescale is still unclear, the company confirmed they are assessing strategies to launch new Mega Man titles on a consistent basis.
"Mega Man represents one of our treasured franchises, and we're contemplating the methods of developing continual games for it," stated Capcom (as reported by VGC).
The previous original Mega Man game to hit the market was Mega Man 11 in October 2018. Since then, Capcom's focus has predominantly been on releasing Mega Man compilations, keeping the series somewhat active. Although a timeline for an additional key game is uncertain, the hope is that the commercial success of the compilations will give way to future individual games.
