Upon reaching the endpoint, both the post and any associated replies are said to be automatically removed.

Although the feature's promotional material did not specifically mention it, reports suggest that any quote posts, which involve reposting with additional commentary, would also vanish when the initial post's countdown concludes. Importantly, Threads has been piloting the temporary post capability for several months now.

It is important to note that these ephemeral posts will not be visible on the Thread's fediverse network. Hence, if an account is transferred to a platform like Mastodon, the temporary posts will not be carried over. This limitation is likely a response to the inability of Threads to erase content from an external network.
